Solution-Focused EMDR is an evidence-based approach to coaching that incorporates positive psychology principles and Eye Movement Desensitisation protocols to shift negative belief criteria and elicit positive emotion required for formulating, motivating, and achieving sustained behavioural change. Solution Focused EMDR combines Solution Focused Brief Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) protocols as a powerful coaching methodology
Solution Focused Therapy.
SF Brief Therapy (SFBT) is one of the leading modalities of behaviour change and has been applied successfully to business, education, criminal justice and social policy. It is a goal-driven model that promotes the achievement of actionable steps in a solution focused and concise way.
Solution Focused Therapy is backed by 150 randomized clinical trials with differing control populations in various clinical settings globally that reported significantly more solutions and fewer problems than other problem-oriented methods. (Richmond, Jordan, Bishof, and Sauer (2014)
The Solution Focused approach maintains that change is constant and certain and so focuses on what is changeable and possible rather what has happened in the past. It also encourages the client to feel confident in the idea of developing their own goals. It is the coach’s responsibility to observe and reinforce evidence of the client’s strengths, resources, and general competence to find future focused solutions. They do this by asking change-making questions rather than offering solutions and then assisting their client to develop the right action plan to accomplish their goals.
EMDR Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing
EMDR is a highly effective way to rationalize problems, eliminate doubt or change any limiting beliefs that prevent success. It does this by engaging the left and right hemispheres of the brain to create a synchronized brain state.
Twenty-four randomized controlled trials support the positive effects of EMDR therapy of adverse life experiences relevant to clinical practice. Seven of 10 studies reported EMDR therapy to be more effective than talk-based modalities and twelve randomized trials noted reductions in negative belief criteria.
Bruce Lipton, renowned cell biologist and author of the bestseller, The Biology of Belief, endorses as EMDR one of the most effective “Energy psychology treatments” for re programming the subconscious mind and “rewriting those destructive programs that occupy our subconscious field.” In fact EMDR has been endorsed as the best evidence-based treatment for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and has been proven to be an effective treatment for; depression, anxiety, panic attack, complicated grief, dissociative disorders, pain disorder, body dysmorphic disorders, eating disorders, sexual or physical abuse, performance anxiety and stress reduction, phobias, addictions, and disturbing memories.
EMDR targets negative core beliefs attached to adverse emotional experiences and memories stored in the nervous system. EMDR is made up of numerous components that include progressive muscle relaxation that proceed bi-lateral eye movements. EMDR treatment replicates the rapid bilateral (left-to right) eye movement that happens during our Repeated Eye Movement (REM) sleep.
REM sleeps acts as a filtering system for all our emotional experiences. When we are troubled by adverse life effects our emotions get stored in the body. The same eye movement process is used in EMDR to induce a stimulating effect on the brain to release the negative emotion associated with these events. Our ability to achieve our goal can be determined by our mindset and this is a key factor to success making EMDR a credible component for behavior change.
Our coaching program use a combination of clinically proven modalities such as Solution Focused Therapy and EMDR alongside Hypnotherapy and neuroscientific methods encapsulated in NEO therapy. The combination of these four powerful approaches to coaching optimizes a client’s capacity to get results in their life, that is scientifically proven.
